AeroVironment will install an undisclosed number of quick-charge stations at interchanges along a 150-mile stretch of I-5. The stations will allow plug-in vehicle drivers to recharge their rides in less than 30 minutes. AeroVironment anticipates installing the chargers in late 2011.
The West Coast Green Highway project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The U.S. Department of Energy will administer the funds, approve projects and reviews the state's progress. In 2009, Oregon was named as one of the test markets for Ecotality's massive EV Project.
