Mitsubishi signs electric vehicle MOU with region in Russia

Governor or Kaluga with president of Mitsubishi MotorsMitsubishi Motors Corporation, along with Rolf Import, MMC's exclusive Russian distributor, and the Government of Russia's Kaluga Region signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that calls for the three parties to collaborate on several projects aimed at improving the natural environment of the Kaluga Region.

This MoU includes promotion of electric vehicles and their related infrastructure, as well as work on reducing the region's level of CO2 emissions and increasing energy efficiency in Kaluga.

Though the MOU doesn't specifically call for Mitsubishi to deploy its electric i-MiEV in Kaluga, we'd assume that's in the works too. With a prohibitively expensive retail price of 1,799,000 rubles ($61,997 U.S. at the current exchange rate), we don't think the i-MiEV will be flying off dealer lots anytime soon. There might be something the government can do about this, though, since Rolf Import claims it's the absence of subsidies that is holding back the i-MiEV in Russia.

Ready to roll? Nissan Leaf limousine coming soon

How can green-conscious celebrities roll around in zero-emissions style while maintaining their precious VIP status? By checking in with Imperial Coach Builders of Missouri, which has announced it will soon stretch a Nissan Leaf into a limousine.

ICB says it will extend the hatch by 48 inches, but considering that all of the battery and electrical equipment are scattered throughout the vehicle, this seems like a real stretch (sorry). Luckily, ICB is a subsidiary of Electric Car Company, so the coach-building firm has a partner with the proper know-how to assist with this project. ECC president Gary Spaniak claims, "This will be the first conversion of this revolutionary vehicle and the first pure electric limousine."

ICB will give the Leaf limo double the seating capacity in the rear. Specifications have yet to be released, but having the seats face each other seems logical. We're quite curious to find out what sort of impact these modifications will have on the Leaf's range. Will there be extra batteries added as well as more seats?

bmw autonomous test drive

Automakers are always looking to push the boundaries with experimental technology, but BMW seems to be ahead of the curve with respect to autonomous vehicles. Previously, BMW was sticking to closed circuits to show off its TrackTrainer. Now, however, the German automaker is venturing out on to public roads, and it's doing so with an automated 5 Series fitted with advanced ConnectedDrive technology.

The system is enabled with a push of a button, once a driver has reached a highway. After it's allowed to work its technical sorcery, the ConnectedDrive system takes over acceleration and braking duty. If the system detects a slower moving vehicle in front, and no vehicles to the side, it's capable of passing said traffic.

BMW is hard at work teaching its prototype how to deal with more traffic situations, such as construction sites and intersections. As the system continues to learn, it will only get better at making sure you're non longer needed. Click past the jump to learn more about this autonomous BMW prototype, and be sure to get a closer look by clicking through the gallery.

Bentley?s newest product is pretty, pricey, and predictable. Bentley played it safe with the 2011 update of its ?entry-level? cash cow, the 2012 Continental GT, very subtly refining its exterior, massaging the prodigious twin-turbo W-12 engine, and shaving weight from certain components, but leaving the car?s aristocratic attitude intact.
